A tourist has been seriously injured in a pony and cart accident at the world-famous Gap of Dunloe.
The police and emergency services were on the scene after the accident involving a pony and carriage on Wednesday 14 August at 12.50 pm
Full details of the crash are not yet known, but an investigation is ongoing. GardaĆ confirmed the accident involved a 'horse-drawn cart' at the popular Kerry tourist attraction.
A female passenger (40) was taken to University Hospital Kerry for treatment to injuries believed to be serious but not life-threatening, GardaĆ have confirmed.
There are no other injuries reported at this time.
The Gap of Dunloe is visited every summer by thousands of tourists who take a pony or bridle ride through the valley.
In 2018, two American tourists were killed in a freak accident while riding a pony in the Gap of Dunloe, shocking the entire community.
Rosalyn Joy Few (64) and Normand Larose (62) died on the second day of their Irish holiday after their pony slipped, sending the animal, the trap and the tourists into a ravine near the famous tourist attraction, their inquest heard in 2019.
