Trade in your old fossil car in France and get an affordable new Stellantis – “Electric As You Go”

Currently available in France, the “Electric As You Go” program is aimed at private customers who want to exchange their old vehicle for an affordable, durable one. Trying to break through ”The costs are too high to invest in an EV” scenario (which becomes more debatable by the hour), Stellantis introduced “Electric As You Go” and promotes a more affordable long-term rental program for battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

The program claims it is efficiently designed to provide groundbreaking competitive pricing to Stellantis customers. The offer starts in France and looks hopeful.

There is the usual but “limited” deposit and a monthly fee that starts from €110 per month plus a cost of 7 cents per kilometer with a minimum of 500 km per month. This new offering presents itself as a breakthrough project. “The main goal of the program is to provide the opportunity to better align the total cost of the vehicle with its actual use.”

With the recent heat wave France, which affects all of Europe, has felt the rise in temperature – significantly higher than last summer’s relatively cooler climate. Maybe this will ask all the sooner adoption of EVs, if indeed they are also more pocket-friendly. Time will tell, and let’s hope Stellantis maintains the “limited deposit” part and doesn’t charge even more.

Drivers can initially choose from a Peugeot e-208 (the Peugeot e-208 was the #1 best-selling all-electric car in France in June) or an Opel Corsa-e, two all-electric models with a WLTP range of over 360 km, or they can opt for a B-SUV such as an Opel Mokka-e.

The company does not say whether prices will be as limited in the next countries that will enjoy the offer or whether the requirement for a fossil fuel trade-in car is part of the deal. “In France, customers are eligible for the offer when they buy a new BEV and return either a diesel vehicle registered before 2011 or a petrol vehicle registered before 2006. In that sense, this initiative makes it easier for the customer to replace an old thermal vehicle with a new BEV, in order to accelerate sustainable parking renewal and thus more sustainable mobility.”

The hopeful: “Inspired by the ‘Pay-per-Use’ trend, which is becoming increasingly popular with consumers in various sectors, this program offers the possibility to pay for their vehicle only when they actually use it. Combined with the lower operating costs of BEVs, this initiative results in a groundbreaking commercial offering that makes ‘BEVs for all’. It really adapts to the needs of customers, allowing them to pay according to vehicle usage with no mileage limit.”

In any case, France is gaining ground in EVs, and if this offering sparks more interest, it might evolve even faster.
