Transpower warns that power supply is tight tonight as well

Transpower is asking utilities to generate more electricity to reduce the risk of a power outage tonight.

Just before 4 pm, the power system operator issued a notice notifying that the system had less than 200 MW of slack between 5 pm and 7:30 pm.

This notice reflects the risk of running out of power during peak demand in the evening if supply is reduced due to an unexpected event.

Notifications from Transpower are two short steps in the “Grid Emergency” declared Thursday, after mechanical and electrical failures at the two power plants and sudden drops in wind speeds have caused greater fear.

However, Transpower still advised that if the generator did not respond properly, a power outage could occur again.

If things get worse, the next step is for Transpower to issue a “warning” notification and declare another grid emergency if necessary.
