Two people have been found dead by police after reports of a shooting in Glendene, West Auckland, and one man has been taken into custody.

A spokesperson said the police responded to reports of shots fired outside a house on Friday afternoon.

Police then blocked Taikata Rd in the Te Atatū Peninsula, where a man was handcuffed to a police car.

A stuff According to an employee at the scene, four people were arrested by the police on Friday afternoon. By 6 pm one person had been driven away by the police and two people were in police cars.

Another man, who was stopped by police while driving and had to kneel on the road while armed police had drawn their weapons, had left in his own car.

Police barriers have been placed at both ends of the road and residents have been asked to stay indoors.

Detective John Sutton said a man has been arrested following the incident and a murder investigation is underway.

“There are talks with him about the two deaths,” Sutton said.

Cordons will remain in place on Barrys Rd in Glendene and locals will see an increased police presence in the area.

“Police understand that this was an alarming incident for local residents and we want to reassure the community that we are not looking for anyone else at this stage.”

A resident of Barrys Rd said her husband witnessed the shooting.

“He heard the gunshot, then the woman screaming, and then they left in a car.

“It’s terrible. He’ll be hearing those screams for a while,” she said.

Another resident said the road has been closed and armed police are on the street.

He said four ambulances were on the scene.

A resident of the Te Atatū Peninsula said access to Taikata Rd was blocked by a flagged police car, at the roundabout where it meets Te Atatū Rd.

At least half a dozen police cars had been spotted in the surrounding streets Friday afternoon and two cars were parked further down the main road, near a gas station.

Auckland Transport has advised that bus route 162 is being rerouted due to the incident and there may be delays.
