TWO people were injured after a chemical leak at a major hospital that evicted the building.
Emergency services arrived just before 6pm tonight after being warned of the leak at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester.
Crews wearing hazmat suits were spotted entering the property.
At least four fire engines were seen at the Romsey Road site, with firefighters from Eastleigh, Redbridge and Romsey.
A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) said they were working to plug the five-gallon leak near one of the hospital’s operating rooms.
They added: “We were called at 5:42 PM tonight following a minor chemical leak at Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.
“The area has been evacuated and two victims have been assessed by an on-site team.
Crews from Eastleigh, Redbridge and Romsey have been working to contain the spill and make the contaminated area safe.
“We worked closely with the teams on site to ensure there was no impact on hospital services.
“The stop message came in at 9:09 PM and the crews are now returning to the station.”
Ambulances were parked away from the hospital’s emergency department during the incident, reports ITV.

Chief Nurse at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Julie Dawes told ITV: “We can confirm that the local fire brigade is currently on site at our Winchester hospital purely as a precaution.
“There is no impact on patient care or our services and we remain there, as always, for anyone who needs urgent and urgent care.”
