Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of a club official at a GAA site in Longford.
The pair, a man and a woman, were arrested and questioned by detectives after a man in his 50s was assaulted on June 11 by a gang of youths on the Longford Slashers property in Michael Fay Park.
The incident happened just before Longford Slashers and Mostrim were scheduled to play in an All County Football League Division One encounter.
The victim, who is in his 50s, is known to have been approached by a group of young men after attempting to disperse the group from the spectators in front of the match.
It was at that point that the victim was attacked by the gang who then fled the scene.
It is clear that Gardaí has made progress with the investigation and has arrested two teenage suspects in recent days.
“Gardaí was present in an assault incident that occurred on June 11, 2022 at approximately 5:35 p.m. in the Farneyhogan area of Longford,” a Garda spokesman said.
“A man in his 50s was treated for non-life-threatening injuries following this incident.
“Two minors, a man and a woman, both in their teens, were arrested in connection with this incident and have since been released without charge pending the filing of the case with the Director of Public Prosecutions.”
