The storms are not expected to be remnants of Hurricane Fionawho has devastated Canada and Cuba and is expected to use the . touch U.S soon.

Instead, the cause is probably the Atlantic jet stream that is blowing stormy weather our way.

Temperatures of 17°C can be reached in parts of the UK on Friday, but wet weather will quickly spread eastwards over the weekend.

Glasgow is predicted to be 14C while Belfast could see 15C.

However, With Office meteorologist Anne Shuttleworth reassured Britten that the impact of the conditions is expected to be limited.

She stressed that the forecast was not unusual for this time of year.

She said: “The strongest wind will affect the northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland where severe storms are possible, up to 55 mph, during Friday morning and afternoon.

“There will also be strong winds on the south coast for a short time on Friday afternoon and evening with a chance of storms.”

Her forecast also predicted a “strong Atlantic jet stream” that would “push a deep low pressure area across the Atlantic that will bring a bout of rain to the UK on Friday with some strong winds to follow”.

“It will probably bring the heaviest rain and strongest winds we’ve seen yet this fall.”

Saturday is also forecast to be “restless” with the strongest rainfall in the south.

By Sunday, however, dry weather is likely to return and conditions across the country will calm down.
