Hugh McCaughey on Ireland's missing players and reuniting the Ulster family
Ulster Rugby's new CEO Hugh McCaughey sat down with our sister newspaper Belfast Telegraph's Chief Sports Writer Steven Beacom this week for an in-depth interview. In the first of a two-part series, McCaughey discusses his role, his passion for rugby, Ulster's financial problems, the controversy surrounding the club's association with Kingspan, the new 3G pitch, his predecessor Jonny Petrie and why he never wants to see an Ireland matchday team without Ulster players in it…
Steven Beacom: Hugh, you were appointed interim CEO of Ulster Rugby in April and in August it was announced that you would remain in the role until the end of 2025. This is one of the most important roles in Northern Ireland sport. It would be good if the public could find out more about you. Tell us a bit about yourself and why you think you are the right person for the job?
