United States also launches 5G spectrum auction for mid-band ether

5G

Mid-band airwaves are quite important in every part of the world when it comes to providing 5SG services. The mod-band spectrum allows telcos with 5G to deliver decent coverage and speeds. In simple terms, the mid-band spectrum is the sweet spot for 5G airwaves that any telco can get today. In India, the 5G spectrum auction is already underway and today is the fifth bidding day. But on Friday, even the United States (US) kicked their 5G Spectrum Auction for the mid-band ether waves. The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is holding this spectrum auction to boost the presence of 5G in the country.

FCC focuses on rural areas with this spectrum auction

According to a Reuters report, this spectrum auction will have 8,000 county-based licenses in the 2.5GHz spectrum band. Most of the airwaves available for this auction are for rural areas of the country. FCC wants to ensure that the coverage gap with 5G can be reduced as quickly as possible. It’s worth noting that in 2021 Congress approved $42.5 billion in grants from the Department of Commerce to expand physical broadband deployment in backward areas of the country where high-speed internet access is lacking. This is a great initiative, because with 5G networks in rural areas, everyone in the country could benefit from the digital economy in the same way.
