Krafton and Unknown worlds today announced that Moonbreaker has officially received early access and is available on PC and Mac via Steam.
Developed by Unknown Worlds, the creators of the Subnautica series, Moonbreaker is a new turn-based tabletop tactics game designed as a true miniature digital experience set in an expansive sci-fi universe created by author Brandon Sanderson ( Mistborn series, Stormlight Archive, Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time).
“Moonbreaker’s Early Access launch is just the beginning,” Charlie Cleveland, game director at Unknown Worlds, said in a statement. “Given Unknown World’s history of iteration of our games while they’re in early access, we’re committed to working closely with Krafton and the Moonbreaker community to build the game into something truly special and enduring. We consider the launch of early access today to be the first in many chapters and we can’t wait for our community to see what we have in store for this game in the coming months.”
Through accessible turn-based competitive gameplay, ongoing content releases, and in-depth customization, Moonbreaker offers a variety of gameplay experiences, especially for fans of tabletop tactics, turn-based strategy and collectible card games, Krafton said.

Players can lead their roster – consisting of captains, crew and assists – in fast-paced, turn-based encounters with a variety of gameplay options. With over 50 units (Captains, Crew and Assists) available at the early access launch, the selection combinations are many.
Moonbreaker is designed to capture the feel of a physical miniature game without the limitations of the real world. Detailed, intuitive and constantly evolving drawing tools allow players to take their unit customization to the next level.
A big part of the design is the focus on miniatures. The game also features custom palettes, beautiful finishes, customizable grid banners, and professional digital drawing tools that create the perfect space for player expression. Players can paint their units using traditional painting techniques or marvel at beautiful painting jobs created by professional miniature painters.
With the launch of Moonbreaker for early access, the first season begins, which includes a seasonal track. By playing the game and progressing through the season path, players will earn a variety of cosmetic items. The first season circuit, which will last approximately four months, will be available to all players at no additional cost.
Players can also experience the world Sanderson has created through “Moonbreaker: Tales From the Reaches,” a special podcast series written by New York Times bestselling author Dan Wells. Players can now listen to the first episode, “Extilior’s Story”, in-game or on digital podcast platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, iHeart Media, Amazon Podcasts and Stitcher.
These audio dramas will transport listeners to various locations in the Reaches – a small solar system with moons held in orbit by a scarce resource called Cinder – as they learn about the game’s main characters and world.
Moonbreaker’s audio dramas will have many twists and turns as they tell a captivating long story that will unfold over many years. A total of three audio dramas will be released during the first season of Moonbreaker, with more planned for each subsequent season.
