THE View hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin have split fans after battling it out live on the show in a heated debate.
The hosts are known for discussing various Hot Topics on each broadcast, but fan viewers were shocked at how heated a recent discussion became.
A bit into Thursday’s episode of The View, Whoopi started a discussion about a new viral story about a man who wrote a controversial social media post about his fiancée.
The groom wrote, “Not the prettiest woman, nor are you the most intelligent woman, but I’ve chosen never to find perfection in anyone else.”
The man later added to clarify: “It may not sound like a compliment, but it is a realistic foundation for love.”
Whoopi was quick to say she understands where he comes from, explaining to him that he loves his bride despite all her perceived flaws.
“I didn’t think it was a bad thing that he said,” the moderator added.
Sunny had the completely opposite reaction to the controversial comment.
“I’m worried about this man,” she said. “I hate him. But I worry about this man for this woman.”
Sunny explained: “I wouldn’t marry him after saying all that.
“But when they get older, what is he going to do, ‘Oh baby, you look a little fat today.’ Oh dear, that was really stupid of you to say that.’
“I do not like that. Your partner should be lying to you.”
Thereupon, Whoopi vehemently rejected that idea and shouted in response, “No! They must not lie to you. O my God!”
However, Sunny kept going, saying that a partner should tell each other, “You are the most beautiful, the most special.”
This shocked Whoopi, and she continued to be against it and, looking up at the ceiling, said, “Oh my God! Please God, hit me now.”
Sara Haines began to agree with Whoopi, saying, “What I think he’s saying is, ‘To expect perfection is to be disappointed.’ And I loved what he said.
“I hope his proposal was a bit more romantic, but this in itself I understood where he was going.”
Sunny just threw her a pursed lip because she disagreed with where Sara and Whoopi came from.
The View fans were divided on whose side to take the hosts’ heated debate.
One viewer sarcastically tweeted to the moderator: “OMG. Whoopi. We know. You’re the relationship expert on Sunny.’
Another sided with the lawyer, writing: “I agree with Sonny! 3X Married Whoopi!
“No derogatory comments made to a woman.”
A third wrote: “I’m with @sunny! As the song goes, ‘Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies.’”
Some, however, went with the other side, writing, “I’m with Whoopi and Sara. Tell me the damn truth.”
A second tweeted: “He may not have said it artfully, but I’d rather have a man who doesn’t look for perfection and loves me for who I am than a man who is constantly disappointed because I’m not perfect.”
A third agreed, warning: “To the ladies who want to be lied to, remember that small lies become big ones later.”
During the same broadcast, fans were shocked Sunny went behind guest co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin during another discussion.
Viewers praised the lawyer for not letting Alyssa, who has reportedly been hired as a new full-time host, “get away with” anything on the show.
