Mykhailo Podolyak praised Boris Johnson as “a person who started calling a shovel a shovel from the start” of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. He said Johnson “realized the threat of a Russian monster and was always at the forefront of supporting Ukraine.”

He spoke after Johnson revealed he will step down as Tory leader and prime minister.

Podolyak tweeted: “Being a leader – calling Russian evil an evil and taking responsibility in the most difficult times. Being a leader – being the first to arrive in Kiev, despite rocket attacks.

“Thank you Boris Johnson for realizing the threat of a Russian monster and for always being at the forefront of supporting Ukraine.”

In a video posted to the tweet, he spoke to the camera, adding: “Today we have everything we need for the effective defense of the country: weapons, partnership and coalition, and thanks to Mr Johnson we understand That victory is a true symbol of the future in Ukraine … we are extremely grateful to our partners, Mr. Johnson, for the opportunity to do our job effectively.”

During his resignation speech outside Downing Street, Johnson said his handling of the Russia war in Ukraine was an achievement he was “hugely proud” of.

Speaking directly to the people of Ukraine, he vowed that the UK would “continue to support your right to freedom”.

He said: “I am immensely proud of the achievements of this government: from completing Brexit to managing our relations with the continent for more than half a century, reclaiming the power for this country to enact its own laws. to make parliament, to get us all through the pandemic, to deliver the fastest vaccine rollout in Europe, the fastest way out of lockdown, and in the last few months, lead the West in resisting Putin’s aggression in Ukraine .

And now let me say to the Ukrainian people that I know that we in the UK will continue to support your fight for freedom for as long as it takes.

During his tenure, Mr. Johnson was praised for his continued support for Ukraine as it fights back against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

After Russia invaded Ukraine in February this year, Johnson portrayed himself as a war leader and dismissed scandals as distractions blown out of proportion by his enemies. He was one of the first Western leaders to visit President Zelensky in Kiev.

He was recently criticized for choosing to miss a leveling conference to attend a meeting with the Ukrainian war chief, where he offered the country more weapons and support.
