Warner Bros. Discovery Condemns Threats Against JK Rowling After Salman Rushdie Attack – The Hollywood Reporter

Warner Bros. Discovery issued a statement condemning the threats JK Rowling made next Friday’s attack on Salman Rushdie.

The author said on Saturday she was working with police after receiving a death threat over her support for Rushdie.

After hearing about the attack on the author, Rowling tweeted, “I feel very sick right now. Let him be well.” In response, someone wrote, “Don’t worry, you’re next,” prompting the Harry Potter author to appeal to Twitter itself, asking, “Chat for some support?”

She later tweeted her thanks to those who sent supportive messages, adding that the police were now “involved” and were already involved in other threats.

“Warner Bros. Discovery strongly condemns the threats against JK Rowling,” the entertainment giant said Sunday. “We stand behind her and all authors, storytellers and creators who boldly express their creativity and opinion. WBD believes in freedom of speech, peaceful discourse and supporting those who speak their mind in the public arena. Our thoughts are with Sir Salman Rushdie and his family after the senseless violence in New York. The Company strongly condemns any form of threat, violence or intimidation where opinions, beliefs and thoughts may differ.”
