He went away from PortlandOregon before leaving for Seattle.

The FBI writes that Cooper turned out to be a “quiet man” in his mid-forties.

He allegedly ordered a bourbon and soda while waiting for the plane to depart.

Cooper approached the Northwest Orient Airlines counter before becoming a prime suspect in one of the greatest mysteries in FBI history.

What did D.B. Cooper do?

More than 50 years ago, Cooper hijacked flight #305 en route to Seattle from Portland.

He reportedly handed the flight attendant a note threatening him with a bomb.

He later demanded four parachutes and $200,000 in $20 bills from the flight attendant, the FBI reported.

Once the flight landed in Seattle, Cooper traded the passengers of 36 people for the parachutes and money.

The hijacker then kept several crew members on board and the plane departed for a new destination to Mexico City.

Just after 8pm, Cooper jumped off the plane somewhere between Seattle and Reno.

He reportedly took the parachute and ransom money he had previously obtained.

The pilots later landed safely, but Cooper was never seen again.

While the hijacking was taking place, the FBI learned of the crime and named it NORJAK from then on.

NORJAK stands for Northwest Hijacking.

“By the five-year anniversary of the hijacking, we had considered more than 800 suspects and eliminated all of two dozen,” the FBI wrote on its website.

On July 12, 2016, the FBI officially closed the case and moved on.

The FBI’s update reads: “** Update July 12, 2016: The FBI has diverted resources allocated to the DB Cooper case to focus on other investigative priorities.”
