EVERTON honored superfan Paul Stratton for his heroic efforts to help Ukraine by giving him a scoring cameo against Dynamo Kiev.
Manager Frank Lampard led Liverpool City Councilor to wrap up a 4-0 ‘peace friendly’ win on Goodison Park with a fine.
Stratton’s fellow supporters expressed their approval when he received a unique thank you gift for traveling to the border with Ukraine to do what he could to help after the Russian invasion.
The ex-cop carefully rolled home a dot, ran after the target at Gwladys Street End and sank to his knees to celebrate as he kissed the club badge.
Toffees’ teammates then rushed in to congratulate and hug an emotional-looking Stratton.
The Liverpool Echo reported how in March Stratton responded to Ukraine’s suffering by replacing his week off to “watch Netflix and eat Pringles” with a trip to Poland.
There he spent four days helping refugees fleeing neighboring Ukraine.
The echo said he was “accompanied by a Polish language book and a network of former police and army colleagues”.
His efforts earned him a moment at Goodison that he will cherish – months after seeing such harrowing events and personal tragedies in Poland.
rather in Everton‘s impressive display, Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed a fourth-minute opener after a long ball from new central defender James Tarkowski.
And ex Burnley winger Dwight McNeil scored twice on his debut.
But perhaps the biggest, and certainly the most poignant, acclaim was for Stratton’s introduction.
Striker Calvert-Lewin and Lampard greeted him warmly as he emerged for a well-deserved spot in the spotlight – and scored on top of that.
