Test Tory last two in Kiev melting pot
THE spectacle of Tory leadership wannabes sneaking like rats in sacks is ugly.
But this increasingly bitter “blue on blue” bickering in the bubble of Westminster are a world away from real conflict.
That is why we applaud the plan for the last two contenders for the Prime Minister’s job to destroy the bloody war zone of Ukraine.
Nothing will focus more attention on the bigger picture than being within range of Russian missiles, rather than just sitting back by Westminster.
What better place than Kiev to bring the contenders on the ground about their commitment to beat? Vladimir Putinthe evil imperialism, which threatens not only thousands of innocent Ukrainian lives, but also the democratic values of the West?
The hopeful leaders must also penetrate the concerns of ordinary Britons.
Speak straight Kemi Badenochfor example, may be a relative unknown, but her views resonate with many, both within and beyond the boundaries of Tory believers.
Whoever becomes our next prime minister must demonstrate that he has a serious vision for Britain’s future in the real world.
Otherwise they will never regain the trust of the voters.
On top of the bill
THE taxpayer-funded bill for Domino’s pizzas to feed migrants who have crossed the Channel is staggering.
Government officials paid nearly £40,000 in just one year to feed those so desperate to reach our shores that they risked their lives in flimsy dinghies.
In just one month alone, the Domino’s shop in Dover was paid £12,000.
That is on top of the millions of euros spent on hotels and hostels.
Obviously we need to make sure these vulnerable people are taken care of, but these bills show why the government needs to target the people smugglers who make fortunes from this evil industry.
The issue is far too urgent to put on the back burner just because the Tory leadership contest is underway.
Marathon trip
THE story of how Sir Mo Farah arrived in the UK as a child is amazing: he came only because the stranger who brought him here needed an extra child to match the number of children on her visa.
From such an unpromising starthe became one of our greatest Olympians.
His awe-inspiring story shows how, through talent and sheer hard work, anyone can succeed in this country.
