We did that, we lost access to Tesla’s fully autonomous driving beta!

After 206 days of my wife and I relentlessly using FSD Beta, I lost access to the software.

How do I feel now after losing the Tesla Full Self-Driving Beta?

When I bought the car in October 2019, I paid an additional $ 6,000 for full self-driving (Note: the cost of full self-driving with a new Tesla purchase was $ 12,000 for some time, the amount I paid. Is twice as much). Spent 5 weeks. My wife and I were hooked before passing Tesla’s annoying safety test. I was able to download the FSD Beta software on October 21, 2021, but I was able to activate the software more than a month after passing the safety test on December 1, 2021. 206 days. I was warned that if I forcibly unlocked FSD Beta 5 times, it would be inaccessible.

It is forcibly released by one of the following. 1) When torque is not applied to the steering wheel for more than 60 seconds. 2) If the FSD beta exceeds 85 mph (previously 80 mph) when active. 3) In FSD Beta, the camera on the mirror looking at your face will be activated. If you’re looking at the control screen on the right for too long, looking down at your smartphone for too long, or closing your eyes for too long, you’ll see a visual and auditory beep warning. .. If you continue this behavior for a long time, I think it will be forcibly released.

I did my best not to be forced to release! In the last 206 days, three forced withdrawals have occurred when traffic jams have made it difficult to choose navigation in metropolitan areas. Until a few days ago, my wife wasn’t forcibly released. However, a 30-mile country drive from Three Lakes to Rhinelander, Wisconsin forced her to be evacuated twice a few days ago, revoking her FSD beta access. My wife had three little children, distracting her, and she had a splint on her broken wrist.

If you look at the FSD Beta instructions in the Autopilot submenu under the Control menu, you will see “Access to FSD Beta has been revoked due to recent driving behavior.” It has also been shown that access will be restored at the next software release (not the next software release). What we don’t know is when the release will come. Knowing Tesla can take days, months, or even years to regain access to software purchased for $ 6,000. If anyone has any insight into this, please leave information about it in the comments section. I think the 206th, when the couple driver team has only been forced to leave five times, is a great performance. I don’t think it’s fair to revoke FSD beta privileges. At the very least, there should be something you can do to restore access (for example, pass the safety test again).

Our Tesla, like almost every other Tesla without the FSD Beta, has returned to standard autosteer and traffic-conscious cruise control. Also, on roads with restricted access, use the autopilot to stop automatically at stop signs and traffic lights.

I was crushed, but I resigned because I knew there was nothing I could do about it! I really enjoyed being part of Tesla’s approximately 100,000 customer FSD beta test team. I have been using FSD Beta relentlessly for 206 days through 5 software updates (V10.5, V10.8, V10.10, V10.11.2.1, and V10.12.2). It was fascinating to see the software improvements in the new version, but some backsliding (such as phantom braking) and some serious obstacles that weren’t addressed (for example, sometimes wrong lane selection and navigation). There was even a failure). Performance failures have also occurred in areas with high traffic density.I’m writing some articles for CleanTechnica About FSD Beta. This is my last article, except for restoring access.

What does the loss of access to the Tesla FSD Beta mean to me?

  • You will not be able to enter your address or company in the navigation and you will not be able to drive your car without intervention (ideally).
  • My car will not start autosteering on roads without a yellow centerline. (There are many such roads in the countryside of northern Wisconsin.) There is one case on Highway X near Three Lakes, Wisconsin, where the yellow centerline ends. After that, my car will continue to fly automatically until it is interrupted for some reason. After that, you will not be able to start autosteering.
  • Since 2016, we have returned to standard autosteer and traffic-conscious cruise control accessible to all Tesla drivers. Instead of always pulling down the appropriate stock twice to start the FSD beta, pull down the stock once again for cruises and twice for autosteer.
  • With Autosteer coming on a turn at 15mph, my car will bail out in the middle of the turn. The same is true for Rotary. With FSD Beta, you can successfully navigate the tightest turns.
  • My car will stop at the traffic light when the traffic light is red, but it will also stop when the traffic light is green unless you pull the stock on the right downwards to approve it.
  • When using traffic-conscious cruise control, it is no longer possible to set speeds above 5mph beyond the map speed limit. This was especially useful in rural areas of northern Wisconsin when the map speed limit was too low. For example, 55 mph is 35 mph. To move at the correct speed, you need to keep applying pressure to the accelerator.
  • When leaving the town’s 35 mph zone and returning to 55 mph, you will need to manually return the speed to 55 or 60 mph. FSD Beta does this automatically.
  • On the positive side, you can now see the control screen of your right or bottom phone for more than 15 seconds without being nagged. Obviously, it’s not safe to distract from the road for long periods of time, but you still need to apply a small amount of torque to the wheels every 15 seconds. In FSD Beta, I couldn’t see the screen for enough time to change settings or switch to a new radio station.

I will not be contacted about the full self-driving beta in the near future! We would appreciate it if you could comment in the comments section.
