Another week has passed, so let’s take a look back at the top stories. Samsung’s Galaxy A34 and A54 were finally unveiled. The duo, which will undoubtedly be one of the most popular phones of the year, has 1080p 120Hz Super AMOLED displays, 5000mAh batteries with 25W charging and IP67 water resistance. The Galaxy A54 has a smaller 6.4-inch screen, a 50MP main camera and a 5nm Exynos 1380 chipset. The A34 has a 6.6-inch screen, 48MP main camera, and a 6nm Dimensity 1080. Both are on sale – the Galaxy A54 starts at €490, while the A34 costs €390.
We’ve got a bunch of Google leaks this week. The Pixel 7a was used in the wild and even sold as a prototype on eBay. It has a 6.1-inch screen, 8 GB of RAM, a Tensor G2 chipset and a 64 MP main camera plus a 12 MP ultrawide. The Pixel 7a will launch in June alongside the Google Pixel Fold, which we’ve learned will cost €1,700.
We’ve also reviewed the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro via leaked renders. The new design is rounder in the corners and goes from a boxy look to a more curvy look. The camera island is different, though unmistakably Pixel-esque. The Pixel 8 Pro is rumored to have a 6.52-inch screen – smaller than the Pixel 7 Pro’s 6.7-inch screen. The Pixel 7 has a 5.8-inch screen – smaller than the 6.3-inch on the Pixel 7.
Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon 7+ gen 2. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 promises substantial improvements in performance and power efficiency. The main Kryo CPU core is clocked at 2.91 GHz and the whole 1+3+4 CPU package delivers more than a 50% performance boost compared to the SD7 Gen 1. An untitled Adreno GPU, on the other hand, offers a 2x performance boost. The efficiency gains are slightly more modest: 13% in different scenarios. We hope that this chipset will reach more phones than its predecessor.
That’s it for this week’s recap. You can check out the full list of top stories below.
The phone boots into a custom Android 12 UI with its own app store that doesn’t include games and short video apps.
It’s the same hardware as the S23 consumer models, but with additional layers of security and features for the IT departments of large companies.
The duo is already available in France and will take a week or two before shipping in other regions.
Note that this isn’t about the Nord 3 or even the Nord CE 3, which recently leaked, it’s about a new CE Lite model.
