West Ham move to Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma on the verge of collapse – and will draw attention to Jesse Lingard

And the Hammers are now drawing their attention to former loaner and free agent Jesse Lingard as a replacement.

Talks were held with Villarreal over a possible move of £ 35 million for Dutch wing Danjuma, but the agreement on personal terms was a bottleneck.

The Spanish team is open to selling to raise funds for improvements to their team, but West Ham boss David Moyes now has different eyes after complications with Danjuma.

Moyes is a big fan of Lingard – who was released by Manchester United this summer – following his four-month loan from January 2021.

Moyes has scored nine goals in 16 games and hopes the 29-year-old’s return to London Stadium could increase their goal threat upwards.

But with several other interested parties, including Newcastle, it is understood that Lingard will have to drop his wage demands to sign permanently for the East London club.

West Ham were already busy in this window and snatched Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd and another former loaner from PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola for a combined £ 40 million.

Their main attacking target is Chelsea striker Armando Broja – who impressed on loan at Southampton last season.

Blues manager Thomas Tuchel and new owner Todd Boehly want to look at Broja during the preseason before making any decisions about the 20-year-old’s future.

West Ham also spoke to Chelsea about Declan Rice and told the Blues they would not accept an offer below their £ 150 million asking price.
