Every year, expectations grow for what Apple will release in the fall in addition to the annual iPhone renew. Here’s what to expect from the Apple event in September.

Apple regularly takes the time to launch a series of new products in the fall that are intended for consumers to buy during their next Christmas shopping. As a very lucrative time of year for the company, Apple puts a lot of effort into its fall events and shows off as many new items as possible.

While Apple mainly focuses on its iPhone product line, it takes the time to look at other complementary products and services.

Here’s what to expect from Apple’s fall 2022 efforts.

When will launch events take place?

Apple’s usual cadence for its fall launches is to hold at least one special event, at least one of which takes place in September of that year. You have to go back to 2011 to encounter a year without a September event.

The September launch won’t usually be the only one, as there have been seven events in October and one event in November over the past ten years.

Since Apple has held October events in 2020 and 2021 as part of a tightly-produced pre-recorded video stream in response to COVID-19, it seems likely that there will be at least two events in the fall lineup.

While other fall events cover many different Apple products, with later events generally covering Mac-related topics, the iPhone usually dominates the September event. The exception for the last decade was 2020when the September event focused on the Apple Watch and iPad lines, while October was concerned with iPhones and HomePod miniand November was Mac month.

As for when that event will take place in September, Apple usually holds the event about two weeks out of the month, moving closer to the middle of the month over the years.

Claims that Apple started recording the video of the event in September, early August, matches the trend, and a report from August 7 also indicates that there will be an event in October.

Apple is unlikely to announce the date of the September event until the week before. Taking all previous events into account, we should get confirmation of an event about a week into September.

There are rumors that the event will take place much earlier. According to Max Winebach in an August 7 tweetthe event could take place on September 6, but admits “not 100% sure, but it seems to be good there.”

Given that Labor Day falls on September 5, the day before the claimed date, and that Apple’s last five September events have taken place closer to the middle of the month, a September 6 or 7 event is highly unlikely.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max

The biggest story every year is that of new iPhone models. however, the story for 2022 could be one that talks about a lack of updates, rather than groundbreaking changes.

For the iPhone 14Apple is expected to release two models as usual, but with a big shift in size. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will replace the iPhone and iPhone mini.

Rumors and so-called leaked diagrams point at models with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens, echoing the dimensions of the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Despite the larger size, the Max model will share the specs of its non-Pro stable mate.

What changes on the outside could be the camera bump, which could be made smaller.

The iPhone 14 and Max may have a smaller bump, but they can keep most of the key specs of the iPhone 13.

Internally, it looks like Apple could stick to this A15 chip for its non-Pro lineup rather than upgrading to an A16, but it could still have some processing improvement. According to analyst Ming Chi Kuo’the RAM of the standard models could jump from 4GB to 6GB.

Other features that may remain the same include a lack of ProMotion, the return of the notch, the Lightning port and the same 12MP camera system. That said, there could still be some improvements.

For example, the iPhone could get Center Stage support for video calls. The Macro mode of the iPhone 13 Pro lineup could also make the jump for 2022.

There has also been speculation that another change could be price. In July, there was speculation that the cost increases from the supply chain would be passed on to consumers, reducing the base cost of models with such much like $100.

While the September event will almost certainly involve iPhones, it seems most eyes will be looking at the changes in the Pro models, not the iPhone 14.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max

The Pro line of iPhones gets its major upgrades every year, and will likely continue to be the case for 2022.

Once again, rumors point to two models, consisting of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, complete with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens. leaked diagrams indicate that they should be practically the same size and shape as the models from a year ago.

The first noticeable change from the iPhone 13 lineup is the display, as rumors indicate Apple will switch to a always-on version. Such a feature provides users with details at a glance without waking and illuminating the entire screen, saving battery.

That screen will apparently also disable the notch for a pill-and-hole cutout, significantly reducing how much of the screen is wasted by the built-in TrueDepth camera array.

The iPhone 14 Pro models could swap out the notch for a pill-and-hole notch instead.

The cameras can also get a massive upgrade, using a 48 megapixel wide camera sensor. The change could result in the ability to record video at 8K resolution and create more detailed 12-megapixel images using a process called pixel binning.

Rumors suggest that the A16 can only be reserved for the Pro line, which will bring a performance boost over the A15 non-Pro models, despite identical memory allocations of 6 GB.

The suggested $100 increase for the non-Pro models may also appear in the Pro range, if only for consistency. However, Apple can still try to avoid the sticker shock that comes with a starting price of $1,099.

Apple Watch Series 8

A good contender for launch alongside a new iPhone, the Apple Watch Series 8 can expand the Apple Watch range to: three variantswhich will release a Pro version in addition to the standard and Apple Watch SE.

Leaks say the standard edition won’t get in the way of a redesign muchand will appear similar to the Apple Watch Series 7 in many ways. This includes aluminum and stainless steel housings in sizes 41mm and 45mm.

However, there have also been claims of a third size, with a larger screen resulting in an Apple Watch with a size of about 47mm. This third may be the supposedly rumored “Pro” variant.

Expect to be more more robust than usual, the Pro model will be better suited for sports and fitness use, complete with a more durable case, possibly titanium. The durability can come at a cost, with one report claiming the Pro model could start with about $900.

Inside the Standard and Pro models, Apple is thought to introduce them body temperature measurements for the first time, allowing fever detection. While an update of the S8 chip is planned, it is also believed that the chip update will not be that much faster than the current generation S7.

iPad and iPad Pro

The iPad often appears during the September event, and depending on Apple’s launch plans, it could easily appear in September or an event later in the season.

Rumor has it that the tenth-generation iPad will have an all-new design for once, as the entry-level means no changes have been made overall. For the tenth version renders and leaks indicate the use of an entirely new design.

Flat iPad Pro-esque sides may indicate Apple Pencil 2 support, bringing the tablet more in line with Apple’s modern aesthetic. The case could introduce thinner bezels around the screen, as well as a new rear camera module, but the Touch ID Home button can last for another year.

Inside, it could use the A14 chip, with support for 5G networks, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 6.

The 10th generation iPad may get a facelift and a new camera module.

Along with the iPad update, changes can: also be on foot for the iPad Proalbeit not so seismic in nature.

For starters, the M1-equipped tablet lineup could see a change to M2 . to use. This would be a natural progression for the product line and add enhanced video features.

AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Max

Of AirPods on its third generation, it is high time the AirPods Pro get an update. Fortunately, the rumors also point in that direction.

In May, it was estimated that an update of the personal audio devices would take place in the second half 2022most likely through a fall event.

Below the supposed changes to the model is the inclusion of a voiceless design, which is wildly different from the existing AirPods aesthetic.

There have also been older claims that there will be some form of fitness tracking functionality, but have later reviews doubted their recording. Rumors have also suggested the use of a microphone in the charging case, some form of hearing aid functionality and a case speaker to help with Find my recovery.

The changes for the AirPods Max doesn’t necessarily have to be that important. Rumors say there are changes on the way, but more limited to new color options than feature updates.

That’s not all, folks

Apple will launch many products in the fall, far beyond this list. For the purposes of this article, we’ve only covered the products that we think Apple will be showing at an event in September.

Rumors claim new Mac models are on their way, like a New Mac mini or more M2 MacBook Pro release. However, Apple usually doesn’t launch them in September, instead waiting for an event to happen at a later date.

There are also long-standing rumors about the Apple mixed reality headset, but on such a groundbreaking release, Apple would hold an entirely separate launch event. It would have too much ground to cover if it placed the headset next to other launches.

There is also speculation that the headset launch will not be until 2023.
