A new feature that allows group admins to approve or reject new members of the group is apparently being developed by WhatsApp. It would be easier for group admins to protect their privacy and reduce spam messages. The feature has been seen in WhatsApp for Android beta v2.22.18.9, which is accessible through the Google Play Beta program, although testers can’t access it right now.
A screenshot of the new option is included in the report by whatsapp feature tracker WABetaInfo, which gives users of the app a preview of what the feature might look like when launched. In the screenshot, the Approve new participants option can be found in the group admin menu of WhatsApp group info, which is located at the bottom of the group settings menu. WhatsApp is likely to include a new section listing all the individuals currently requesting to join the group.
Further information about the upcoming upgrade
The messaging platform is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow group admins to control who can join the group, according to a report from WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo. Once the “Approve new participants” option is available in the WhatsApp group settings, group admins can accept or deny incoming requests from users who all want to join a specific group.
The messaging app is rumored to be releasing the upgrade through the Google Play Beta program, starting with Android v2.22.18.9 beta. Since it is currently under development, beta testers will not be able to see the functionality.
The change came shortly after the Meta social messaging app unveiled a new privacy feature that allows users to secretly leave WhatsApp groups without notifying other members of their departure. Users can secretly leave a group using this functionality, with the exception of the administrators. Currently, WhatsApp displays an automatically generated notification when a group member leaves. This month, all users will have access to the new feature.
