Germany and France compete for a spot in the Women’s European Championship 2022 final at Wembley. Germany has a lot of experience with the business end of the tournament, although France is very confident after reaching the semi-finals for the first time in their history.

Corinne Diacre said France was “here to build history” after meeting the holders of the Netherlands to reach the semi-finals of the European Championship for women for the first time.

Les Bleues ensured a 1-0 victory over the Orange in Rotherham thanks to a penalty from Eve Perisset in the first half of extra time.

They move on to meet eight-time winner Germany in Milton Keynes on Wednesday, a first appearance in the last four of the competition after making quarter-finals at each of the last three editions.

Boss Diacre, who took charge shortly after Euro 2017, when asked about the past record said: “That is not our history. We are here to build history. The players here and the staff, we want making history for ourselves, and there’s still a long way to go.”

She added: “We’ve reached a new level tonight, but that’s not the end for us. We really want to make it to the final. When we set out our ambitions, we looked ahead to July 31.”
