Where is the memorial fountain for Princess Diana?

On August 31, 1997, the nation was devastated when news of The Tragic Death of Princess Diana was announced.

The beloved Princess of Wales died after fatal injuries in a car accident in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris.

Her companion Dodi Fayed and driver and guard Henry Paul were also killed in the crash.

Since her death, a number of poignant memorials have been designed to honor Princess Diana’s life.

One of them is the memorial fountain for Princess Diana, located in Hyde Park, London.

The fountain was first opened on July 6, 2004 by the Her Majesty the Queen.

This unique monument to the late princess aims to reflect Diana’s life – with water flowing in two directions from the highest point before converging in a calm pool at the bottom.

There are also three bridges where visitors can cross the flowing water and stand right in the heart of the fountain.

This stands for Diana’s quality and openness.

Visitors are free to sit on the edge of the monument and dip their feet in the water, reflecting as they go.

However, visitors are asked not to walk on the monument itself.

Other tributes include the Diana Memorial Playground, The White Garden and The statue of Princess Dianaall of which can be found on site Kensington Palace.

How can I visit?

Visitors can find this special space in Hyde Park, London.

Opening times vary throughout the year when you can visit the monument.

  • April – August: 10am – 8pm
  • September: 10am – 7pm
  • March and October: 10am – 6pm
  • November – February: 10am – 4pm

The area can be closed off during extremely cold or severe weather, so it’s important to keep this in mind when visiting.

The memorial also has a path that is suitable for wheelchair users.

Registered service dogs are also allowed in the area.

Where is Princess Diana buried?

Princess Diana was buried on her property on September 6, 1997 parental house, Estate Althorp.

It is understood that the People’s Princess is buried in the Pleasure Garen of the stately home, on an island in the middle of the home’s lake, known as The Oval.

Although Princess Diana’s resting place is private and not open to the public, the island where she is buried can be viewed from a distance.

Instead, those visiting Althorp Estate can pay their respects at a memorial within the grounds.
