The new white Xbox Elite Series 2 gamepad is not just a color change but purposefully has fewer features for a lower price.
New colors and designs for consoles and controllers are constantly being announced – this week we have the Gray Camouflage PlayStation 5 and the new one Switch with Pokémon Scarlet/Violet brand.
Usually they’re just a cosmetic change, but surprisingly the new white Xbox Elite Series 2 controller isn’t, as it purposely packs fewer features at a lower price.
The Elite Series controllers have been around for a while and are aimed at more hardcore gamers and professional players. They are very good but they are also very expensive except for the new white which is £45 cheaper than the previous editions.
The Xbox Elite Series 2 – Core, as it’s officially called, will be released on September 21 for £114.99, a significant saving over the existing £159.99 version (although it’s currently £17 off on Microsoft’s website). ).
The savings are mainly achieved by removing the interchangeable parts from the controller, as the more expensive version includes a choice of removable thumbsticks, D-pads and backpaddles. It also has a charging dock and carrying case that the Core doesn’t have.
They seem like sensible omissions, though, as the interchangeable parts are really just for the hardcore. As it is, the Core still has dedicated thumbsticks where you can adjust the tension, shorter hair trigger locks, and a rubber grip that’s much better than the stock Xbox controllers.
You can also change the button assignment via a dedicated app, and there’s a rechargeable battery that lasts 40 hours.
If you still want all the optional extras of the full fat edition this will be sold separately at a later date as the £54.99 Complete component packagewhich also comes out on September 21. Which, as you will see, ultimately the Core version 10 euros more expensive than the normal one.
If you don’t like either of the current colors, Microsoft will add the Elite Series 2 to the Xbox Design Lab at an unspecified point later this year.
