LEGENDARY Scotland and Rangers goalkeeper Andy Goram died in 2022 after a battle with cancer.

Who was Andy Goram?

Andy Goram was a club legend for Scottish Rangers, playing 260 games for the Glasgow team from 1991 to 1998.

The 58-year-old helped them win five Scottish Premier League titles, as well as three Scottish Cups and two League Cups.

He was also capped for his country for both football and cricket and remains the only Scot to have played both sports at the highest level.

International football fans will remember him as part of the Scottish squad that performed at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups and the 92 and 96 European Championships.

What cancer did Andy have?

Andy announced in late May 2022 that he had been diagnosed with level 4 esophageal cancer.

A specialist predicted the football hero would have about six months to live – and nine if he went through chemotherapy.

However, Andy was quick to reject the treatment option after watching his ex-wife Miriam, who battled cancer in 2021, get sick from it.

He told the Daily Record: “The doctor told me, ‘Go enjoy your daily life and be as normal as possible.

“My pain is manageable. I can still go out with friends and still be myself.

“I’ll stay here as long as I can.

“The only difference is that the time bomb is ticking away.”

How did he die?

Rangers issued a statement on July 2, 2022 announcing that the Ibrox hero had passed away.

It said: “Rangers Football Club is deeply saddened today to announce the passing of our legendary goalkeeper, Andy Goram, after a brief battle with cancer.

“The thoughts of the directors, management, players and staff are with Andy’s family today and ask that their privacy be respected during this sad time.

“The details of the funeral will be communicated in due course.”

Was Andy married and did he have children?

Andy was first married three times to Jackie Taylor, Tracey Fitzpatrick and Miriam Wylie.

His last marriage in 2001 to bar landlady Miriam broke up after three years.

The couple remained close and Goram said she had supported him since his cancer diagnosis.

Andy had a son, Danny with first wife Jackie, and another son, Lewis, with second wife Tracey.
