With Belgium set to be engulfed by the European heat wave, the country’s rail company is deploying additional trains to seaside hotspots, where people are expected to flock to the coast to cool off.
The railway bosses announced the move to avoid chaotic scenes during earlier periods of warm weather, when some passengers had to wait hours to board a train to the main coastal destinations of Knokke and Ostend.
The Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium predicts maximum temperatures in Brussels of 36 to 37 degrees.
Netherlands and Luxembourg
The Netherlands is bracing for temperatures of up to 40 degrees next week in some parts of the country as a heat wave hits European coasts.
The weather agency has urged people to prepare for code yellow warnings, especially in the south of the country. Experts are urging people to stay indoors and shelter from the extreme heat outside.
The traditional Four Days Marches – also known as the Four Days Marches – in which about 50,000 people walk up to 220 kilometers, will start on Tuesday, in the middle of the heat wave. Organizers are already making special arrangements for the extreme heat.
In Luxembourg, the elderly and young children are urged not to spend too much time outdoors, to avoid physical activity and to stay hydrated.
Meteolux, the weather warning service, has said temperatures of up to 32 degrees are expected in much of the country in the coming days.
