Will Ferrell, Reese Witherspoon to Play in Nick Stoller Wedding Movie – The Hollywood Reporter

Amazon Studios is going down the aisle.

The streamer has been given the rights to an untitled wedding comedy from writer-director Nick Stoller that has Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell attached to the star.

The trio also produce through their respective banners: Ferrell along with Jessica Elbaum produce through Gloria Sanchez† Stoller will produce with its Global Solutions chip partner Conor Welch; and Witherspoon co-produces with Lauren Neustadter via hello sunshinewhich Ashley Strumwasser, the company’s exec, produces.

Logline data is kept under the veil, but the premise is two weddings booked on the same weekend at the same location.

Most studios sat these out, but among the streamers, the competition to land the wedding comedy was just as intense as the rush to catch the bouquet.

Gloria Sanchez, who has a first look for a TV deal with Netflix and one for movie with 20e Century Studios, is behind Netflix’s hit series dead to me, which will soon enter its third and final season. It was also one of the companies behind one of 2021’s most acclaimed big screen comedies, Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar† The company recently wrapped up a Christmas musical spicyin which Ferrell stars opposite Ryan Reynolds, for Apple TV+.

Stoller generates a lot of buzz for his gay rom-com brotherswhich he directed and co-wrote with Billy Eichner and which Universal will release on September 30. Among his other directorial credits are comedies Forgot Sarah Marshall and the Neighbors movies. He is currently in production on the Apple TV+ series Platonic, starring Seth Rogan and Rose Byrne, which he co-created and showed with his wife, Francesca Delbanco.

Hello Sunshine has made a name for itself with thoughtful and powerful series such as The morning show, small fires everywhere and big little lies, all of whom played Witherspoon as well. The next company has coming-of-age drama Where the crayfish sing opening by Sony on July 15.

Ferrell is represented by UTA and Mosaic, while Stoller is represented by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham. Witherspoon is represented by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson.
