With Vecna proving to be one of the most challenging entities yet for the Hawkins gang, some may be wondering if enough of them will survive season 4 to return.
This season is by far the biggest yet, with over 800 pages of scripts, nearly two years of filming and a runtime nearly twice as long as any previous season. All signs point to a finale for the show this season…or are they?
In an open letter to fans earlier this year, the show’s creators confirmed to the Duffer Brothers that: there will be a fifth chapter but haven’t specified a release date or details about the plot yet.
Could Season 5 Be The Last Stranger Things Series?
While Season 4 isn’t the end, it looks like Season 5 will complete the story of the heroic Hawkins gang and mark the end of one of the most popular TV shows since Game of Thrones.
The Duffer Brothers said in their letter to fans, “Seven years ago, we planned the entire storyline for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted that the story would last four to five seasons.
‘It turned out to be too big to tell in four, but – as you will soon see – we were now racing towards our final. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.’
The brothers teased “many more exciting stories to tell” and “new unexpected heroes” in this and the next season.
First, we hope you’ll stay with us as we follow this story of a powerful girl named Elf and her brave friends, of a broken police chief and a raging mother, of a small town called Hawkins, and an alternate dimension known only as the Upside down.
“As always, we are grateful for your patience and support,” they concluded.
Executive producer Shawn Levy weighed in on the decision to end the sci-fi drama, saying the team behind the show didn’t want to go beyond the arc originally laid out.
“Well, we never wanted to walk on smoke and we only wanted to tell as much story as the brothers saw and feel clearly,” he explained.
“So it’s been clear for a while that they know exactly where we’re going and this is the arc.
“We wouldn’t want to go beyond that vision and the clarity of that voice for a moment.
“So instead of focusing on that sad day that who knows when will happen, the end of season five, I’ll reaffirm what I’ve told everyone, which is that it’s been a long wait for season four. But I swear to God , the world will realize it’s worth it.’
Stranger Things season 4 part 2 is streaming on Netflix starting today (May 27).
