Wimbledon 2022 is on track and already has some major twists and turns, including the early defeat of the tournament’s top rivals.

Thousands of people have landed at London’s All England Club, where the world’s largest tennis name is fighting for one of the sport’s most prestigious awards.

So how long does a tennis match at Wimbledon take?

How long does a tennis match take?

The length of a tennis match depends largely on several factors. One is a set.

For men in Wimbledon and other Grand Slam tournaments, three sets are required to win a match using the “Best of Five” format, while for women, two sets. On average, these games last from 90 minutes to 2 hours.

However, in some tournaments, players need to win 5 sets against their opponents, which is a much longer game, averaging about 3 hours.

Traditionally, the final set during a tiebreaker (both players have exactly the same number of points, games, sets and are on the verge of victory) One player wins two distinct games. This means that some tennis matches can last for a very long time.

In fact, the longest-ever tennis match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut in Wimbledon in 2010 lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes over the three days of the tournament. The shortest match at Wimbledon was in 1881, when William Renshaw defeated John Hartley in just 36 minutes.

New rules are being tested this year to determine a clear winner in the case of a tiebreaker, to prevent the match from lasting forever. According to the Grand Slam Board, when all scores reach 6 games in the final set, the winner of the match will get 10 points first and have an advantage of 2 points or more.

What time does Wimbledon start and end every day?

The All England Club Ground opens daily at 10:30 am and is intended to start playing on Courts 2-18 from 11:30 am.

However, play begins at 1 pm on the show courts (center court and courts 2, 3, 12, 18). The only exception to this is the championship final, which begins at 2:00 pm on the center court.

Play usually ends around 9 pm, depending on weather delays and whether the match was involved in a long tiebreaker. However, this can last much longer, and the latest tennis match at Wimbledon will continue until after 11:00 pm.

But the organizer can forget to play anymore – The rules for outdoor events by the local council mean that the match must end by 11:00 pm and continue the next day.

So if you’re going to sit down to watch the match, you have to save it at least 2 hours a day – but be prepared to last much longer.
