Gary O'Neil's Wolves have enjoyed a 'big boost' ahead of their Eredivisie collide with Arsenal on Saturday, when Matheus Cunha was fit again.

Wolves travel to the Emirates as both teams play their first match of the new top-flight season as O'Neil's side hope for a surprise result in the north London.

Cunha, Wolves' key player, suffered a hamstring injury in 2019 preseason and the club's fans have finally received the long-awaited fitness update.

O'Neil has confirmed that Cunha is in the squad and while Arsenal are still the big favourites to take three points, it is still fantastic news for his team.

“Cunha is fine,” said the Wolves boss. “He's raring to go. He's worked hard to get back and he's feeling really good.

“He's had a great week of work, he's trained every day on the grass. There are no worries around him, which is a big boost for us.”

The 25-year-old Brazilian international Cunha scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 32 top-flight appearances in the Premier League last season.

Cunha scored the last time Wolves faced Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in December 2023, when the Gunners won 2-1.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta has revealed he held a special team meeting with his players ahead of the Premier League opener against Wolves.

“Everyone was talking about the same thing: we wouldn't stop here and we want much more,” said Arteta.

“We know how we want to evolve and how the players can evolve. Those margins are huge and we have to fill them.”

Arsenal have narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City for the past two seasons in a row.

The Gunners have not won the top trophy since the 2003-04 season under legendary manager Arsène Wenger.
