A woman in her 50s has been arrested over alleged harassment of Prime Minister Simon Harris at his family home in May.

The woman was arrested this morning and is being held at a police station in Co Wicklow.

She is the second person to be arrested in connection with the incident at Mr Harris's Greystones home on May 2.

Protesters gathered outside the house as Mr Harris' children prepared for bed.

The incident came days after Harris criticized protests outside politicians' homes as “outright violent.”

The Taoiseach lives with his wife and two small children in a residential area in the town of County Wicklow.

More than a dozen people were part of a group that gathered outside his home, holding banners with slogans such as “close the borders”, “house the Irish first” and “Éire will no longer be run by EU puppets”.

Images of the protesters outside the Taoiseach's house were posted on social media, but their faces had been blurred.

“I have a very clear position on this, whether it's me, whether it's an opposition politician, whether it's who it is, frankly, I always think that people's families and people's homes should be kept outside the borders,” Mr Harris said at the time.

“It was my kids' bedtime when this situation arose. I don't think it's appropriate.”

A statement from police said: 'This morning, Thursday 15 August 2024, police arrested a woman for alleged breaches of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged intimidation of an elected representative on 2 May 2024.

“The woman, in her 50s, is currently being held at a police station in County Wicklow under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

“An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time.”
