A 78-year-old woman has died and a man has been arrested after 'several gunshots' were heard in a leafy Edinburgh neighbourhood.
Armed police were called to a 'disturbance' at a house in Fernieside Crescent in the south east of Edinburgh Tuesday around 8:25 am.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local residents reported hearing “several gunshots” in the street.
It is understood a weapon was involved in the incident, but no one was shot with a firearm.

Police Scotland said a 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death.
The incident was captured on Ring doorbell camera footage, showing an officer walking through a yard before five gunshot-like sounds are heard, quickly followed by six more, the Sun reports.
In a statement, Police Scotland said investigations were continuing.
Police added: 'This was an isolated incident and officers remain in the area to reassure the public and anyone with concerns should speak to officers.'
Forensic detectives attended the scene on Tuesday afternoon and the area was cordoned off.
Police Scotland said a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
