A 28-year-old woman in a suspected stolen vehicle has been arrested after trying to escape from police.
A police spokeswoman said they saw the vehicle on State Highway 1 in Foxton around 1:50 PM, but it fled.
“The police have not followed up. The vehicle was hit on Rangiotū Road shortly afterwards and then abandoned.”
Two occupants were followed by a police dog and found them hiding in a nearby building.
A woman was charged with a number of driving-related charges and was due to appear in court in Levin on Friday, while a man “would be treated in due course”.
