Car rental group Enterprise has been ordered to pay €10,000 in compensation to an employee who said she was “humiliated” and forced to return to an old position after discovering her salary if promoted would be thousands of euros less than her previous salary men in the same role elsewhere in the organization.

Bernadette Ryan told the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) that she was told the salary would be €39,000 to €40,000 before she started working as an assistant depot manager at ERAC Ireland Ltd, trading as Enterprise Flex-E-Rent.
