A woman shared a hack to recreate £ 50 designer pickups for less than £ 10.

And all you have to do is melt old plates in the oven.

Frances Simmons, 39, first saw the trend on Pinterest and Instagram for wavy, scalloped pickups, but was not too impressed by the £ 50 price tag.

So she decided to try a DIY version with a £ 1 record from a charity shop and £ 8 spray paint from Wickes.

After turning on her oven on the lowest setting, she pushed a Pyrex bowl upside down, then placed the plate on top, letting it stand for three minutes while it melted.

The content creator had a minute to manually bend the PVC into shape before solidifying and covering it with primer she already had at home. She concluded by spray-painting the creation.

Frances posted the clever hack on her Instagram (@ 100yearsinthemaking) and it got an incredible 1.9 million views on the platform.

People online were in awe of the hack and called it ‘completely genius’.

“When I see these things on very nice interior bills, I always think about how I can make them for less,” Frances said.

The process of melting the record

‘We do not have a lot of money and I have always had a little expensive taste – I can smell the most expensive thing in the store.

‘Everything on my account has everything to do with getting that high cost look for less.

‘I’ve seen a lot of scallops and ruches lately that I liked a lot and I’ve seen it on a US account – I regularly check Pinterest or Instagram accounts.

“I really liked the idea and thought it would work perfectly in our living room if I made it a little more textured.”

She continued: ‘I set my oven to the lowest temperature it would go – I’ve seen since if you put it too high on the oven it can release fumes, so I just kept it at the absolute lowest setting.

‘Mine was there for about three minutes before it was soft enough, I put it upside down on a Pyrex bowl so I knew it was soft enough when it started hanging on the sides.

‘While I was molding it, I could feel it getting stiffer again – you do not have long, maybe about a minute, to mold it and then it is completely solid again.

‘I used a texture spray paint on the one I made and I used a BIN primer underneath – anything that the primer sticks to will stick the paint to the primer.

‘The hole is still in the middle and I’m debating to fill it with a filler.

“I have it in the living room – I keep moving it around, I like it in a lot of different places and it has not yet been found to be at home, I do not think.”
