Woman who was in love with suspect in Highland Park shooting says she regrets turning him down when he asked her out. OLASMEDIA TV NEWSThis is what we have for you today:
A neighbor of the suspect in the Highland Park mass shooting has admitted she feels guilty for rejecting him once when he asked her on a date.
The 21-year-old, known only as Amy, also revealed that she still has a crush on Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, despite being charged with seven first-degree murders for the Fourth of July shooting in Illinois.
The 22-year-old allegedly opened fire from the roof of a nearby former outdoor store, killing 7 and injuring more than 30.
Amy, who lives near Crimo’s father Bob’s house, said they were both fast food colleagues at their local branch of Panera Bread bakery in March 2020.
She and Crimo became friends when they worked together at the eatery for about a month, before it closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“All I think about is him,” Amy said.
“I didn’t go to sleep last night and I haven’t eaten in two days.”
She said she and the suspected killer soon developed feelings for each other, but never dated because of the “strict” parents who see her in a relationship.
“I felt like we were the same person,” she said. “We loved anime (and) similar music.”
She added that she had no idea the aspiring rapper was gun-obsessed or had previously attempted suicide, a case being handled by mental health professionals at the time.
“Looking back on it, I think he wanted to keep it hidden from me,” said Amy, adding that Crimo admitted to putting off his dream of opening a local deli with his father in order to be closer to her. .
“I didn’t want to get in his way, though,” she said. “So I thought maybe if I stopped talking to him, he would (open the sandwich shop).”
Instead, it turned out to have the opposite effect.
“Every day I saw him go by and he didn’t say ‘hi’ or ‘goodbye’ anymore,” Amy said.
“It feels like I hurt him. So I feel guilty that this happened.”
“He was kind of the last person I’d suspect,” she said. “I feel like something clearly pushed him to this.”
