Brace yourself for football fans as the Women’s Euro 2022 is less than SIX days away – and some of the world’s best countries will be on display.

The Lionesses open the tournament with a delightful clash against Austria.

It culminates in a sold-out Wembley Stadium on Sunday 31 July – a match that has had to move the game between Liverpool and Man City Community Shield.

England named their roster for the tournament earlier this month, omitting legendary former captain Steph Houghton.

Houghton hasn’t played since January amid a devastating Achilles tendon injury, missing roster for the first time in five major tournaments

When is the Women’s Euro 2022?

The main event of the summer takes place from wednesday july 6 with host country England opening the tournament against Austria at Old Trafford.

There will be a total of ten stadiums in eight cities across the country where matches will take place.

And the tournament has two kick-off times – 5pm or 8pm UK time.

Group matches end on Monday 18 July with only the top TWO teams from each group advance to the knockout stage.

What was said?

UEFA’s deputy general secretary Giorgio Marchetti and UEFA women’s football chief Nadine Kessler claimed the 2022 Women’s European Championship will inspire a new generation and reach a new level of standards.

During the October 2021 draw of the tournament, Kessler told the crowd: “To reach this next level, we will raise the bar.

“For the media, for the fans and especially for the players.

“Players whose skills, passion, strength and personality are inspiring a whole new generation of football-obsessed girls and boys and leaving a legacy across Europe and beyond.”
