WWE legend Rey Mysterio was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday night, but it wasn’t without controversy.

The masked luchador was honored alongside referee Tim White, entertainer Andy Kaufman, iconic diva Stacy Keibler and trailblazer The Great Muta in a diverse and deserving class of 2023.

At the beginning of his speech, however, Rey was forced to pause when booing erupted in the Crypto.com Arena and his own son Dominik left his seat and walked backstage, flanked by his Judgment Day teammates Rhea Ripley and Damian priest.

The Master of the 619 let his son leave before promising to “take care of things” when they meet in a very personal father versus son match at WrestleMania 39.

Despite the brief foray into current storylines, Rey’s speech was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish as he talked about his beginnings in the company while learning from his uncle Rey Mysterio Sr.

The live audience hung on every word and broke into chants – with some of the loudest reactions following the mention of the late, great Eddie Guerrero.

Rey himself was initiated by an old friend and mentor Konnan, who himself gave a special and hilarious speech telling his side of the story and helping the luchador move up the ranks.

Elsewhere in the evening, Keibler spoke about her lifelong love of wrestling and showed her gratitude to the WWE Universe as she was inducted by both Mick Foley and Torrie Wilson.

Following a speech by APA duo John “Bradshaw” Layfield and Ron “Farooq” Simmons, the late Tim White’s family spoke fondly of their brother, while Jerry “The King” Lawler appeared in a pre-recorded video introducing Jimmy Hart .

The Mouth of the South took the stage and shared memories of getting to know the late Andy Kaufman, whose siblings and daughter reflected on his genuine love of wrestling.

While Ric Flair talked a lot about his own experiences in Japan, it was still fitting that he was there for The Great Muta to take his place in the Hall of Fame, what he did was concise, good humor and some Green Mist.
