CM Punk has taken on All Elite Wrestling, Jon Moxley and ‘liars’ in an astonishing social media diatribe.
The WWE legend, who hasn’t appeared for AEW since the infamous All Out press conference that reportedly led to an altercation behind the scenes involving EVPs Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks has commented after veteran wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer claimed he tried to pull out of a match with Jon Moxley on Dynamite in August 2022.
Punk had sustained a foot injury after defeating ‘Hangman’ Adam Page for the AEW World Championship at AEW Double or Nothing with Moxley becoming Interim Champion and then Beat Punk in the ‘squash’ unification match.
Regarding the last-minute build-up to the match, Meltzer had claimed, “Punk agreed, then AEW got a legal letter saying he didn’t agree and didn’t do it and they didn’t know if he was coming until Tony stood his ground.’
In a since-deleted post on his Instagram story, Punk claimed, “SIGH. I wasn’t cleared to come back to wrestle yet. Then the plan was to wrestle in the ppv. I sat and listened to Moxley’s Rocky three idea.
“I explained that I had never seen a Rocky movie and thought it was a bad idea, but if the boss wanted to do it, whatever. He said he wouldn’t lose to me.
“I’ve never had anyone refuse to lose to me. I just laughed. I asked Tony if this was what he wanted. He said yes. He’s the boss, so I said okay, but I need to be cleared first.
“They kept saying it could just be a pumpkin so I didn’t have to be exonerated. I scoffed at that. My health is more important.’
He then went on to accuse Meltzer and fellow wrestler Chris Jericho of being a “liar,” also calling the latter “a stooge,” continuing, “There were plans, but plans always change, but I’ll never put business before my health again.” ‘
After Punk deleted his post, Jericho shared a gif of Matt Hardy saying his “delete” catchphrase.
Following the ‘squash’ match at Dynamite in August 2022, Punk would go on to win the title the following month at All Out 2022, before being stripped of the title and not seen on television since, although he was recovering from an injury. at.
