The man in charge of Xbox really wants to play God Of War Ragnarök, even though it’s not available on any format other than PlayStation.

You don’t necessarily have to be an avid gamer to run a large games company. It’s hard to imagine Activision or EA’s minds sitting down for a quick game Fortnite, or for that matter PlayStation boss Jim Ryan or Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa. But Xbox’s Phil Spencer is different.

Actually, we don’t know his opinion of Fortnite (and if he didn’t like it, it wouldn’t be diplomatic to admit it), but we do know that his all-time favorite game is Robotron: 2084, which also happens to be our favorite coin -up from the golden age.

The last game he played was the indie title Road 96, which we’d say shows a fair amount of good flavor too. His most anticipated title, however, is surprising: PlayStation-exclusive God Of War Ragnarök.

Spencer has generally encouraged a much less combative relationship with rivals Sony and Nintendo, and has often spoken of his love of gaming in general and a desire to end of ‘fights between platforms’.

While it’s a good PR gambit (and in an ideal world he’d want Xbox Game Pass on both formats), he can’t pretend he’s not an avid gamer. So much so that he loved taking part in an Xbox Twitter pop quiz about your gaming history.

According to Spencer, Pong was the first game he ever played, suggesting an early start as he was born in 1968 and Pong wasn’t released in arcades until 1972, and as a home version in 1975. But it’s entirely possible he had can be. play at age six or seven.

The game he’s currently playing is the Hot Wheels expansion for Forza Horizon 5, so no hints about advanced access to games that aren’t out yet (in 2020, he talked about Playing Elden Ring for someone else).

Instead, the most surprising revelation is that the game he most wants to play is God Of War Ragnarök, which is only available on PlayStation 4 and 5 this year, although it will likely come to PC in a year or two.

The last question is what would be the first game you would show a caveman, with Spencer choosing puzzle game Lumines. We would have gone for Primal Rage.
