Technically, this is not the first EV that Xiaomi has released. That would be the Xiaomi M365 electric scooter. There’s an “um, actually” fact to throw at your friends. Joking aside, the Chinese giant made a big commitment to the electric car market last year, pledging: Invest $10 billion in the next ten years.
In the latest development on that front, company founder Lei Jun is expected to unveil the first EV prototype in August. That car was designed by HVST Automobile Design, responsible for WM Motor’s Maven concept car. After the unveiling, the prototype is destined for further road testing, and we may be able to expect a PR campaign for Xiaomi cars.
However, the actual production cars still have some time left. The Xiaomi Auto factory and R&D center will be built in Yizhuang, and the first real cars are expected to leave the production line in 2024.
