THERE is a genius iPhone hack hidden in Photos that identifies any dog or plant.
It works using machine learning to quickly name a dog breed, even if you don’t know it yourself.
The feature is built by Apple, so you don’t need to download any apps.
And it works with photos you already have.
So if you snapped a cute doggy in the park but didn’t know what it was, your iPhone could be revealing the truth.
And if you spot an enviable patch of foliage, you can poke it out and find the species in seconds.
So how does it work?
First, make sure you update to the latest iOS – go to Settings > General > Software Update.
Then find a photo you want to identify.
Open in your Photos app and look at the menu in the bottom row of the image.
If there is a star next to the “i” icon, it means you can use Visual Look Up.
Tap it and then choose Lookup at the top of the pop-up menu.
This will try to identify the dog breed.
It also works with other animals, as well as plants and landmarks.
You get other information where appropriate, such as a landmark or a Wikipedia page about the plant species.
If you don’t see the star next to the “i”, the feature isn’t working.
This means that the image does not contain the correct subject, or simply is not of sufficient quality for an accurate Look Up.
