A 29-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 35-year-old woman in East London.

Jordan McSweeney, 29, homeless, has been charged with the murder of Zara Aleena, attempted rape and robbery, the Metropolitan Police said.

He will appear in custody at the Thames Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Ms Aleena was found in the early hours of Sunday morning with head injuries in Cranbrook Road, Ilford, East London.

She died at the hospital later that morning.

Tributes were paid to Ms Aleena after her death as she returned home from an evening out.

Ms Aleena’s friend Sophie told BBC News on Tuesday: ‘She was just a friendly soul, the sweetest girl, she could never hurt a fly.

“Always polite, always bubbly, really the sweetest girl you could ever meet. So much goes for her. ”
