A MAN attempted to smuggle cocaine worth £80,000 by swallowing 79 packets for a 5,000-mile journey.
Benjamin Nwaogwugwu, 43, made the 1kg trek in South America before moving to ParisThen the UK.
But he was stopped at Manchester Airport on June 1 after Border Agency agents saw him grin uncomfortably.
Nwaogwugwu initially told them that he had been in Paris for the UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
But phone analysis yielded images of French Guiana.
The father of three was arrested and taken to hospital, where it took two days to pass all the packages.
Experts tested 19 and found they contain it cocaine with a purity of up to 89 percent.


Nwaogwugwu, from Longsight, Manchesterlater said he had been pressured by gangsters, who threatened to harm family members in his native Nigeria.
He was told to swallow 100 packs in Cayenne, French Guiana, but was physically unable to swallow them all.
Nwaogwugwu pleaded guilty to cocaine importation at the Minshull Street court and was sentenced to four years and two months in prison.
Judge Tina Landale told him: “You cooperated and then you tried to lure you out.”
