New emoji comes in Unicode 16
The Unicode Consortium has submitted the proposal for Unicode 16, which includes seven new emoji characters such as harp, shovel, fingerprint and face with bags under eyes.
The timeline from design to implementation of an emoji is long, and the Unicode Consortium has revealed what could happen next. After the beta period concludes what will go into the final release, companies like Apple will have to create their own versions of each new emoji.
According to a release post details Unicode16, discovered for the first time Through MacRumors, the Unicode update will include new emoji. While the proposed emoji aren't finalized yet, they will likely make it to release after the beta review period ends on July 2.
The images in the proposal are not the final version, nor what will appear in different operating systems. Once the emoji are approved, it's up to Apple, Google and other companies to create their own artistic interpretation of each emoji.
