They said: “Officers attended and found a man suffering from a stab wound. Despite the best efforts of police officers and paramedics London Ambulance service, the 38-year-old man unfortunately died on the spot.

'Police officers are working to inform the man's family. Formal identification has yet to take place.

“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.”

Chief Inspector Alex Ogilvie said: “I recognize the impact this violent incident will have on the local community, especially as it happened on a residential street when many people would have been at home.

'We will be supporting our colleagues in the Specialist Crime Command with their investigations and you can expect officers to be in the area in the coming days. I encourage you to talk to them about anything you have seen or heard, and any concerns you have.”

No arrests have been made and the investigation continues.

A crime scene remains.
