Airtel surpasses 2.5 million 5G customers in Northeast and Assam


Bharti Airtel today announced that it has 2.5 million customers enjoying its 5G service in the states of North East and Assam. The company has been deployed successfully 5G service in all cities and districts in North East and Assam, Air count announced on Thursday. To remind, Air count announced in February 2023 that Airtel 5G Plus is live in all northeastern states of India. And again in October 2023, Airtel announced that within a year of 5G launch, it has over 1.7 million unique 5G customers on its network in the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland , and Tripura.

Rapid adoption of 5G

Airtel was the first telecom provider to deploy high-speed lines 5G technology in these states, and the 5G service will be available in all districts of the states within 12 months of launch, the company said in the October 2023 announcement.

The company today said it has recorded a significant increase in the number of 5G users in North-East and Assam over the past six months. This is possible thanks to its extensive network deployment that has effectively expanded its services across the states, simplifying the process for customers to embrace 5G.

Connectivity between monuments

From the iconic architectural wonders and pilgrimage sites of Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh and Ujjayanta Palace in Tripura to the breathtaking vistas of tourist hotspots like Kaziranga National Park in Assam, Mawsynram – the wettest place on earth in Meghalaya, Hornbill Festival in Nagaland and Tea estates in Assam, Airtel says it continues to complete its rollout in North East and Assam.

Factors driving 5G adoption

Airtel attributed the deployment and adoption of 5G in India to multiple factors, including rapid network improvement, accelerated 5G rollout and increased availability of 5G devices.

Additionally, Air count said the expansion of retail in the region by increasing the physical size of stores has further increased consumer connectivity to help customers upgrade to 5G service.
