Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo Met Gala 2024: 'Wicked'-Inspired Shades

Meet Gala veterans Ariana Grande And Cynthia Erivo hit this year cream and moss green carpet in looks subtly inspired by their November film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical Bad. The subtle inspiration in question? Pink and green accents.

The more demure of the two, Grande, wore a white Loewe dress with mother of pearl, designed by creative director Jonathan Anderson. Under the lights of the red carpet, the dress shimmered in pastel shades Bad-theme colors. Erivo wore a two-piece set by Thom Browne with tuxedo details, pink petals and scattered insects, including what appear to be green praying mantises. To see all the 2024 Met Gala looks like here.

The duo kicked off their 'Wicked' method dressing at the Oscars. Grande – who plays the good witch Glinda – wore a bubblegum pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture dress. Erivo channeled her character Elphaba in a green leather Louis Vuitton dress fashion designer Jenna Lyons and HauteLeMode style critic Luke Meagher swooned in one THR exclusive video. “Listen, the Bad the press tour has started,” Meagher said after the Oscars.

At the 2024 Met Gala, Grande paired her Loewe dress with platforms from Stuart Weitzman's best-selling dress Nudist collectionjewelry from Lorraine Schwartz and a full face of her own makeup line brake beauty. And Erivo is accessorized with black patent leather platform boots, also from Thom Browne.

The stars flowed over each other during Fashion's interviews prior to the event. Grande said, “Getting to know it and love it [Cynthia] changed my life.” Erivo returned the love, describing Grande as “spectacular.”

At other Met Galas, Grande wore a Vera Wang Sistine Chapel-inspired ball gown adorned with Michelangelo's Last judgement fresco, after 2018 event. Grande, a pioneer of the trendy flirtpaired with an oversized hair bow that flowed gracefully down the back of her dress.

Cynthia Erivo made her first Met Gala appearance in the all-white Thom Browne The 2017 event in honor of Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo, and she stunned for the second time in an all-white look for 2022 In America: An Anthology of Fashion – with the dress code 'Gilded Glamor and White Tie' – where she wore a lace dress from Louis Vuitton, a romper and a matching headscarf.

This year's dress code, 'The Garden of Time', is inspired by the Short story from 1962 with the same name by JG Ballard, which fits in nicely with the newest Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition, Sleeping Beauty: Fashion Reawakening, which opens to the public on Friday, May 10. Curated by Andrew Bolton, the show highlights fragile pieces from the institute's archives, all viewed through a lens of nature. From the exhibition coffee table book will be released on June 18.
