Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey missed Ghana’s international friendly against Brazil after coming off with an injury during the warm-up.

The 29-year-old was scheduled to start for the Black Stars in France on Friday night, but had to withdraw after a tap a few minutes before kick-off.

Ghana has not disclosed the nature of the injury, but it will be a major concern for Arsenal, who face Tottenham at the Emirates immediately after the international match on October 1.

It would serve as another massive injury for the former Atletico Madrid star who has already missed three games this season due to a knee injury.

He returned to base from Mikel Arteta on Sunday when The Gunners took a 3-0 win over Brentford, but he could now be ready for another spell on the sidelines. Partey had started earlier, completing Arsenal’s first three games of the season.

The midfielder has had a number of injury issues since his £45million signing from Atletico in the summer of 2020, missing 10 Premier League games in his first season in England with muscle and hip problems.

After starting last season with an ankle problem, Partey missed Arsenal’s last nine games.

Arsenal went into the international match with a handful of other injury concerns, with Martin Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko suffering from calf problems.

Odegaard joined the Norwegian squad and manager Stale Solbakken even suggested he could help the squad in a coaching role should he be deemed unfit to play against Slovenia and Serbia.

“We are in regular contact with him and [Mikel] The health sector of Arteta and Arsenal, as it is called in Danish. Nothing has been decided yet, so there is still hope,” Solbakken said on Monday.

“He’s not well now. Now it’s a matter of making a final decision as to whether he can be in both or one match. We will definitely see him in Norway, either as a player or as ‘fourth coach’. It means a lot to have him.’

Recent reports suggest that both Odegaard and Zinchenko are expected to be suitable for the visit from Antonio Conte’s side.

Arsenal top the Premier League after seven games, having won six with the only blemish against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Tottenham are close behind, but were in third place with 17 points – level with Manchester City.
