Aspiring jackhammer Mikey Roynon's final tragic moments before he was stabbed to death with a zombie knife

Footage shows aspiring jackhammer Mikey Roynon's final moments before he was stabbed to death by a teenager with a zombie knife at a house party.

The youth, identified for the first time today as Shane Cunningham, 16, fatally stabbed Roynon, also 16, in the neck during an argument in the garden, jurors were told.

Cunningham was convicted of murder in March, while two friends were convicted of manslaughter after being acquitted of the more serious charge.

But the judge only lifted reporting restrictions to protect the defendants' identities after they were sentenced at Bristol Crown Court.

Jurors were shown CCTV footage from a bus, which showed the three defendants arriving in Bath for the party after traveling from Wiltshire.

The footage showed sharp objects under the defendants' tops, which prosecutors said showed the boys arrived at the party armed.

A teenager, who was also at the party and gave evidence at the trial, said Mikey told him he thought he was going to die after being stabbed.

The two co-defendants, Cartel Bushnell and Leo Knight, also 16, received sentences of nine years and nine and a half years of juvenile detention, while Cunningham was sentenced to a minimum of 16 years in prison.

About 50 people were at the party at the property in Bath, Somerset, in June last year.

Witnesses said about nine or 10 boys had pulled out weapons “such as swords and zombie knives”, the jury heard.

The defendants left the scene and later threw away their weapons, and two were recovered by police.

Two of them had pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article. Knight denied this charge, but was found guilty of it by the jury.

During the trial, Cunningham claimed he acted in self-defense when he stabbed Mikey after claiming Mikey had brandished a knife at his friends in the property's garden.

Passing sentence, Mr Saini praised Mikey's family for their dignity during the trial.

“I heard the victim's moving personal statements this morning from Mikey's mother, father and grandmother,” he said.

“The day Mikey was killed, he was only sixteen and still a child. His family has suffered a loss that is unimaginable.

“Mikey had a great musical career ahead of him and although he faced some challenges in his life, his future was very promising.”

The judge continued: 'Bristol and the surrounding areas are in the midst of a plague of knife crime. That plague has persisted since this process was completed.

'The lives of boys who carry knives are still being taken over by those who also carry knives.'
